White Fillings

A very popular choice

Mercury free white fillings are now the material of choice to repair damaged teeth and to replace your old leaking, unsightly silver amalgam fillings. They are made of composite resin, composed of glass beads in plastic and bonded to tooth using an adhesive.

Composite comes in a wide range of shades, so that a filling can be accurately colour-matched to blend in perfectly with each individual tooth. At Cwmbran Dental Care, we use some of the most aesthetic white filling materials on the market.

Why have white fillings?

What is involved in having a tooth filled?

Looking after your fillings

To prevent decay forming around the composite filling, it is important to brush at least twice a day and attend for regular check-ups. Our hygienist can polish off any stains which build up on the fillings and restore the original lustre.

FAQs

  • Are white fillings better than silver amalgam?

White composite fillings are now very popular with patients and dental professionals alike. They have far superior aesthetic qualities and comparable strength. White fillings are also completely mercury-free, an important consideration for many people.

  • Can white fillings be repaired?

Yes, if they suffer small chips or damage, it is easy to repair white fillings. In some cases, we may remove the entire filling and replace it, depending on each case.

  • Can I eat straight away following a filling?

Composite fillings set immediately, so you are able to eat as normal as soon as you have left the practice. As you may still be numb from the local anaesthetic, you may wish to wait a couple of hours, or chew on the other side of your mouth, but this is not a requirement.
