Routine Check Ups

At Cwmbran Dental Care we know that prevention is always better than cure

It is important that we see you regularly to check over your teeth and gums, so our dentists can spot potential problems before they get a chance to get worse. You may not be able to notice a small cavity, but if left your tooth could need more complicated and costly treatment further down the line.

Our hygienists will give you plenty of help and guidance on how to clean your teeth and gums properly and so protect your smile from future problems.

What happens during a check-up?

Firstly we will ask if you’ve had any problems or concerns since your last visit.

During your appointment, we will examine your head and neck, inside of your mouth, teeth and gums, looking for signs of:

Further investigations like dental x-rays may also be required. At Cwmbran Dental Care, we use digital x-rays, which mean lower radiation dosage for you and results which come back almost immediately.

To help you keep your teeth and gums in good condition at home, we will advise the best cleaning techniques and also share tips on diet, alcohol and tobacco consumption.

If we find anything that requires treatment, we will give you a personalised treatment plan that includes the best course of action, after discussing the various options with you, and expected costs. No one likes hidden surprises.

How often should you see your dentist?

This very much depends on your individual risk of getting tooth decay and gum disease, or whether there is anything else we need to monitor closely. You may need to see us once or twice a year, but our dentists will advise you on when best to come back for your next check-up or hygiene appointment. Sometimes if you have had extensive treatment, you will need to visit more frequently. If you have any problems between check-ups please phone on 01633 877618 and we will see you as soon as possible.

One great benefit of coming for your regular check-ups, is that it will reduce the cost of your dental care in the long run. By catching problems early, more costly procedures that leave you out of pocket are avoided.
